Challenge
Destiny 2 has been Bungie’s flagship video game since 2017. It’s a first-person shooter slash space opera packed with complex lore and gameplay mechanics. How can we continue to engage the existing community whilst making the game feel accessible to new players?
Solution
The Heroes Welcome campaign shines a spotlight on the Destiny player community and invites them to tell new players what they love about the game. The content we created with them showcases everything gamers love about Destiny and invites the viewer to join the party.
Campaign Hero Asset
The video features five prominent community members and is narrated by Solar Flair, the fabled Destiny 2 space cowboy and creator famous for his 3D animated skits based on content from the Destiny universe. In this asset, Solar talks us through what keeps him and the community coming back to Destiny over and over.
In addition to the exhilarating combination of bespoke animation, streaming footage and in-game moments, this piece features live-action footage of our heroes surrounded by cutting-edge LED screen tech.
The result is a high-energy, feel-good and authentic love letter to Destiny 2 that has captured the community’s imagination.
This video asset ran during the 2022 Bungie Day live stream, an annual event where Bungie updates its customers. It has been translated into 14 languages.
Community Featurettes
To further champion the Destiny community and create space for them to share their stories with the world, we conducted a series of in-depth interviews with each streamer. This involved my sitting down with each gamer in premium studio utilising the cutting-edge LED screen tech as the backdrop. The result is an authentic and visually stunning portrait of each community member and their Destiny experience.
